Become a Mentor

I2E Mentors are the extended support system that participants choose. Our mentors eliminate relational poverty by expanding participants' support system as they age out of foster care. Improving and strengthening support systems helps participants beat the odds against homelessness, incarceration, and unemployment. These relationships are the catalyst for life transformation and success, both during and after their time in our Independent Living program.

Mentors focus on assisting participants set goals, work toward meeting goals, provide life-on-life mentorship, and demonstrate accountability with adulting skills and behaviors.

Mentor requirements

  • At least 21 years old
  • Pass a background check
  • Have CA/N (child abuse/neglect) clearance
  • Committed and consistent with active listening and strong communication

Donations

We accept the following gently used and new items to help furnish apartments and stock the essentials our youth need as they move toward independence:

  • Food
  • Furniture — gently used or new
  • Appliances — gently used or new
  • Professional clothing and shoes for women/men — gently used or new
  • New household goods
  • New cleaning supplies
  • New personal hygiene products
